March 25, 2020 – In light of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Epilepsy Alliance Florida has announced its continued availability to help South Florida consumers navigate healthcare coverage options for Affordable Care Act (ACA/Obamacare) marketplace health insurance during the ongoing pandemic.
Epilepsy Alliance Florida has trained specialists, called Navigators, available to assist ACA enrollees in reviewing the basics of health insurance, completing the online application, and providing explanation about how federal subsidies for premiums and cost sharing work. All Navigators have undergone federally regulated training, and their services are free and unbiased; Navigators also have no financial stake in the plans consumers select.
Especially for consumers facing unemployment, Epilepsy Alliance Florida Navigators are prepared to assist. For consumers laid off due to business decisions related to the COVID-19 crisis, the current rules provide a sixty-day eligibility window for the consumer and their family called a Special Enrollment Period (SEP), which is an opportunity to sign up for a suitable health coverage plan available in the consumer’s county.
South Florida consumers can call Epilepsy Alliance Florida toll-free to schedule a virtual or telephonic appointment with an Epilepsy Alliance Florida Navigator: 1-877-553-7453.
Epilepsy Alliance Florida is part of a five-member consortium called Covering Florida, under which it is subcontracted to provide Navigation services to the South Florida region of Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach counties. This year is the organization’s second as a consortium member, and its seventh year providing Navigation services.
